Elizabeth Aretta Young (1864-1923), known as Aretta throughout her life, was born in St. Charles, Idaho, to Franklin Wheeler Young and Anna Maria Sabin. Aretta graduated from Brigham Young Academy High School in 1884 with her normal diploma. She later received a certificate in physical geography, a teacher's certificate, and Bachelor of Pedagogy degree, all from Brigham Young Academy.
